About the Base64 Encode / Decode
Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text. Unlike the browser's built-in btoa(), this tool handles full UTF-8, so accented characters, non-Latin scripts and emoji round-trip correctly.
Enable URL-safe mode to produce Base64URL (- and _ instead of + and /, no padding), the variant used in JWTs and URLs. When decoding, URL-safe input, missing padding, whitespace and data: URI prefixes are all accepted.
How to use it
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Paste your text or Base64 string.
- Copy the result.
Features
- Full UTF-8 and emoji support
- Base64URL (URL-safe) option
- Tolerant decoding: padding, whitespace, data URIs
Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding that anyone can reverse. Never use it to protect passwords or secrets.
Why is Base64 output about 33% larger?
Base64 represents every 3 bytes with 4 ASCII characters, so encoded data is about four-thirds the original size.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens in JavaScript inside your browser tab. Your input is never sent to a server, logged or stored, so it is safe to use with internal or sensitive data.
